MACHINERY CERTIFICATION – Directive 2006/42/EC

Whom it may Concern:

Concerns the machinery manufacturers listed in 2006/42 European Directive. The certification of certain categories of equipment listed in Annex IV to that Directive (as woodworking machinery &  meat processing machines,  presses / metal brakes, vehicle lifts, bins for waste collection, refuse collection vehicles, machinery for plastic molding, etc.) is required from an accredited institution through the procedure of EC type or the procedure of full quality assurance.

What is CE Marking of Machinery

The CE Marking, which means "Conformite Européenne," is a label that must appear on all machinery sold in the Member States of the European Union (EU). The marking can be regarded as a "passport" that allows manufacturers around the world to transport and sell their products freely within the internal EU market.

The designation CE informs the millions of European consumers that the manufacturer has manufactured products in accordance with European regulations on health, safety and environment.

Before placing the machines on the market and / or put into service by the manufacturer or his authorized representative must ensure the followings:

a) ensure that it meets the health and safety requirements set out in Annex I (2006/42/EC)

b) ensure that the technical documentation referred to in section A of Annex VII is available (2006/42/EC)

c) provides, inter alia, necessary information, such as instructions;

d) applying the appropriate conformity assessment procedures under Article 12 (2006/42/EC)

e) draw up the EC declaration of conformity according to Annex II, Part 1, Section A and ensure that it accompanies the machine (2006/42/EC)

f) affix the "CE" marking in accordance with Article 16 (2006/42/EC).

In the case of equipment listed in Annex IV the manufacturer must follow the EC type examination procedure or the full quality assurance process.

In the case of type-examination procedure, the notified body shall act in accordance with Annex IX of the Directive.

In the case of the full assurance by the notified body shall assess / monitor the quality system in accordance with Annex X of the Directive.

What are the key benefits of CE Marking?

Ø  A single framework of rules within the EU

Ø  Health and safety of people who use machines

Ø  Elimination of barriers to free trade movement because of differences in national laws

Ø  Compliance of equipment with substantial safety requirements depending on the type of equipment
